When we were in Whitefish the night before, a woman working in one of the stores told us about The Huckleberry Patch and said we just had to stop there for breakfast, so we did! The Huckleberry Patch is half restaurant, half gift shop. We all ordered huckleberry pancakes (when in rome!) and then shopped a bit before heading back into the park. I don't know what it is about Montana, but this place LOVES their huckleberries. And I thought Jackson Hold was bad! I'm glad we embraced it though, because everything was delicious!
Just inside the West Glacier entrance to the park is Apgar Village. The cutest little strip of shops and restaurants. There are a few parking lots, and we parked at the big main one on the end, and weaved through the village until we go to Lake McDonald. Coming up to the lake literally took my breath away. Lake McDonald is huge and just like everything else in Glacier, absolutely beautiful. I just couldn't believe my eyes! I couldn't believe I was actually there, in person, witnessing all of this! It was just too gorgeous for words.
We saw a little shack on the lake shore offering rentals for different water toys, canoes, row boats, etc and decided on a whim to rent a row boat! It was so cheap ($20 for a row boat that could easily seat probably 6, for an hour!) and so much fun! We took some snacks with us and hung out on the lake, in this adorable little row boat while we listened to music. Ryan was a river guide for several years, so he knew all about the boat and what to do, which was so nice! We all took turns rowing - it was not easy! It was such a fun afternoon, I'll never forget it! After our hour was up, we were hungry for lunch, but we all just mostly wanted ice cream, so we found a stand and got some cones!
still holding on to the huckleberry tea i bought here. i need to savor it!
