Grey's 2015

IMG_8218IMG_8226 IMG_8209 IMG_8215 IMG_8221

A few weeks ago, we were able to squeeze in a weekend with my family in our favorite place in the world, Grey's River! This trip has been a long tradition, for both of us, so it was important that we were able to make it, even if it was just for a few days! The mornings were rainy, the afternoons were hot, and the nights were cool - just how we like it! We had so much fun relaxing at camp, riding the 4wheelers, playing with cooper in the river, making s'mores, river rafting, and testing out crosby's 4WD. we packed as much as we could into the few days we had up there, and i didn't get many pictures! scarlett was so cute the whole trip, she absolutely loves playing outside, even if it was cold, and she was obsessed with the 4 wheelers! she would ask anyone and everyone "ride? pleaaa!!" haha you couldn't get her off of them, it was so cute and funny! my only goal the whole trip was to finally get a chaco tanline, which i totally succeeded at! too bad i was also wearing leggings at the time, and got an awful tan line right across my shins (which i conveniently cropped out of that last photo, haha!) we also found a good log while we were here and cut off a stump that we've brought home and turned into a nightstand for the baby's room! i love that we have been able to incorporate things that are meaningful to us from different areas of our life, and i can't wait to see it all come together!

I also don't think there's such a thing as a bad trip to the Grey's...

Cooper is Three!

IMG_8255

I seriously can't believe my sweet baby puppy is three years old! I know I get sappy about Coop a lot, but it's because he truly is my baby! I love this dog like a child, and he is seriously the greatest thing. I don't even know what we were doing with ourselves before we got cooper! He is so smart and has so much personality, and it's so obvious that he loves us right back. We're his people! I always tell coop that he'll always be my first baby, and I sometimes worry about what it will be like when I have my baby girl. I think cooper will adjust well to her, but I am worried I won't be giving him the attention like I do now. I know I won't, and I hope he understands. I think he and this girl are going to be a pretty great team, though! I don't know what in the world I would ever do without this dog. He is my best friend in a lot of ways, and I love him so much!

IMG_8261
his birthday was on monday, so before we headed off to work, devin and i gave him a new toy. right when i got home, we took him to mcdonald's for an ice cream cone, haha! i love their ice cream cones and whenever i get one i usually let coop have a few licks, so for his birthday he got his very own! we were so sure it would make him sick, but it's been a couple days and he's been alright, ha!

IMG_8262
he absolutely loved it! i think he was surprised we were letting him have the whole thing!

IMG_8263 IMG_8264
after his ice cream cone and playing around the house with his new toy, we ended the night at the park. he loooooves going to the park and gets excited any time we tell him we're gonna load up and go! he seriously smiles haha! he looks like such a goob in this picture, but he was such a happy dog chasing a ball around for a few minutes before the sun went down!

Happy Birthday, buddy - you're the greatest dog ever!!!

30 Weeks

IMG_8272
i love when devin and i can collaborate on a project and put each of our own thoughts and ideas to work together, it's so much fun! the nightstand for the nursery is coming along beautifully!

+ Today I am 30 weeks, 6 days

+ Baby's the size of a cabbage

+ Definitely getting uncomfortable sitting for long periods of time - I feel like I can't breathe! She has been up in my ribs a lot, which I think is why. It's hard to sit at my desk at work without taking a break and stretching or standing up every few minutes!

+ I got a root canal this week. Let's not talk about it. Lucky for me, baby girl was giving me all kinds of encouraging kicks during the root canal that distracted me from the drilling!

+ All of the store have finally come out with their first fall lines, so I'm in trouble! I'm loving everything, and I feel like I can finally buy seasonally appropriate clothes for my girl! Don't be surprised if you see her sporting neon and flamingo prints in December though, haha I haven't been able to help myself all summer! hahah

+ We've started and almost finished the side table for her room! I told Devin a month or two ago that I wanted a tree stump night stand by the rocking chair for the nursery, and it matches everything we are doing in the room perfectly, and I thought it would be so cute and simple. So when we were camping in Wyoming a few weeks ago, Devin and my brother in law Zac hunted down the perfect log and cut a stump from it and we hauled it home (it's pretty huge!). We've been hard at work on it every since, cutting it down to the size we want, leveling off the ends (this is why you take math in school, kids) and sanding it all down - it's coming along so perfectly, it's better than i thought it would be! I don't mind that it was free, either! haha I've loved helping Devin with it and I love that it's a special piece, made by us, from our favorite place, for our baby's room. I'm so excited to get the nursery put together!

+ Our rocking chair came today! And the stroller/car seat travel system should be here by the end of the week! Everything is finally starting to come together! We move in about 3 weeks and I can't WAIT to finally set up the nursery, I think it's the first thing I'll do once we get the keys! We will be living out of boxes for weeks, but our unborn child will have a gorgeous room, haha!

+ She's still moving a ton, and moving lots for Devin, too. I absolutely love when he gets to feel her, it's the coolest thing. I can't believe we're so close to finally meeting our girl!!

An Attempted Update

I logged into blogger this morning with the intent of posting a life update that wasn't pregnancy related. Then I realized after about .4 seconds that that would be impossible because pregnancy is my life right now! When you're pregnant, it takes up your entire day. Not in a bad way, it just does. It effects everything I do, and it's all I think about. Like, ever. If I'm not distracted by her movement, or adding a million headbands to my etsy favorites, or entering another instagram giveaway from something baby-related, or going over our list of baby names, than I'm probably talking about her, organizing the baby stuff piled up in her crib, or reading other bloggers' birth stories for the 12th time. I love it though, and all the planning and researching and thinking and organizing just gets me that much more excited for her to get here!

BUT

I'm still going to attempt to update you on the rest of our lives, because there's a little bit besides baby stuff happening. Sometimes.

+ we are MOVING! haha it's funny to write that, because I'm pretty sure every single summer, we're tried to move. We thought we'd be in Herriman for 1 year. It's now been 3, and we are so sad to leave. I love this city, I love our tiny little house, but I won't miss the 20 minute commute, the annoying neighbor kids, the constant litter that accumulates in our backyard (we live on the corner lot), or the ward that doesn't seem to realize we've been here for three years. I will miss the view, our crazy CTR 4 class, all the natural light (we practically live in a greenhouse), and the easy access to SLC and the rest of salt lake county. But we really are moving! To Saratoga Springs. Because we couldn't fit a baby in this place if we tried! We are so excited though. Our new place is everything we wanted, closer to work and family, across the street from some of our best friends, and a fresh start! Just one more month! (And yes, I'll be 8 months pregnant. So if you wanna help us move, there's pizza in it for you!!!)

+ Devin averages about 50-60 hours of work a week. I would complain, but it's pretty spread out and Devin has become so good at managing his time and dedicating time specifically to work, or specifically to not working, instead of trying to do it all at once. He has been under a lot of pressure, and it's made for some pretty stressful few weeks, but he still loves what he does, and we really couldn't ask for more!

+ I've been working, too, but I'm a strictly clock in at 9, clock out at 5, leave work at the door kind of person, so it's really not that exciting. I've been at my current job for 7 months now and I still feel like the new girl, haha. I love that I'm so close to Devin, and I really do work with a lot of great people, so it's not as bad as I make it out to be in my head sometimes, but with the baby on the way, the last thing I want to do is spend 8 hours a day at work. It's going to be so hard once she's here! Advise? Yes? Please!

+ That reminds me! I've been reading Amy Poehler's "Yes Please" and I absolutely love her! Way more than I realized! I've always been a fan, but after reading this book, I want to nominate her for President! She is the greatest. I love all these celebrity memoirs coming out lately, they are all so good!! I will admit though, I'm in a bit of a hurry to finish it so I can start reading "Go Set a Watchman" - UM. Can we talk about this for a second? Because I mean, HELLLLOOOOOOOO. If you didn't get that I'm obsessed with To Kill a Mockingbird by now, than we've got a serious problem. And I'll admit, when I heard that Harper Lee was releasing a second novel, happy tears were literally shed. Easily, easily in the top 10 happiest moments of my life. I can't wait to read it!!!!

+ since I've been pregnant, we've gone on 4 great trips - 3 of which included sleeping in a tent, which was something I'd sure I'd have to give up once I got further along. Turns out, I'm still sleeping pretty comfortably in a tent! So Devin and I are committed to two more trips before the baby comes - a night at Silver Lake, and a weekend in Arches! Can you believe I've never been to Arches? Am I even a Utah Native?! And Devin hasn't been since he was a kid. We are long overdue!!!

+ Cooper turns 3 on Monday. THREE. I don't want to talk about it.

+ I turn 24 the following Monday. Which is a lot less traumatic.

GLACIER | Part 1

Okay so a big huge disclaimer about this: I'm going to split this trip up into several posts because there are SO MANY PICTURES and I can't bring myself to narrow them down any more than I already have, because they are just too good. Between the four of us that went, we had 5 or 6 different cameras going (the convenience of a cell phone is just too good to ignore), so when we all uploaded all of our pictures to dropbox, things got pretty insane, and now I've got like, 58324695 pictures. SO. I've been going through them and organizing them as I go. Bear with me, here. IT WILL BE WORTH IT. Also maybe don't mind that I'm including boring details, because I mostly just want to remember EVERYTHING about this trip!

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

On New Year's Eve, we decided we wanted to go to Glacier with our friends, The Hamblin's, and not long after, set a date in June. It's so surreal that this trip has come and gone! It was hands down, one of the best trips of my life, and definitely the best trip Devin and I have been on since we've been married! Glacier combined Devin's love for hiking and exploring, with my love for relaxing and sight seeing, ha! We had so much fun, especially with Ryan and Chelsey. I don't think we could have had as much fun on a trip like this with anybody else, they were so great! They're definitely our spirit couple. We're basically soulmates.

Glacier National Park is absolutely MASSIVE, and there is so much to do and see, that it was a little overwhelming at times. We spent months researching the must-see places, and definitely exhausted our resources, including friends who had been to, or even worked in the park. We finally narrowed it down to a few main areas we wanted to spend our time in, since we had 3 full days in the park. The nice thing about this trip though was that we didn't have any schedule or itinerary to stick to, so when we felt like changing plans, we did! We made a lot of our decisions en route, and that made the trip more fun, I think! We would be driving through the main road in the park, looking at the map, pick a hike that looked cool and go and do it right then! I loved the spontaneity.

We left on Thursday bright and early, I think it was 5:30am? We got the car all packed up the night before, and Devin and I bought a roof rack and cargo bag for extra space. We stopped at Maverick and got some soda and donuts to keep us awake until it was an acceptable hour. We stopped at a McDonald's in pocatello for breakfast and just kept on going! We had a really long drive ahead of us, so we tried to keep stops to a minimum. We noticed right away that with the roof rack and bag on top of the car and the weight of 4 adults plus all our gear in the car, we got terrible gas mileage! It didn't end up being as expensive as we feared, but it was still annoying to stop for gas so much! We stayed pretty entertained for most of the car ride, and listened to Jim Gaffigan and watched Napolean Dynamite while Devin drove. Idaho was a pretty drive, and we got to watch a plane crop dust a field, which was so cool! I had never seen anything like that before!

Once we got into Montana is when we all started getting anxious and sick of being in the car. We stopped in Butte for lunch to try out a place Ryan and Chelsey had seen on Man Vs. Food, Trimbo's Pizza. The place was a huge dive, and we were all a little skeptical, but once our pizza came out, we completely changed our minds. It was so delicious! Totally worth it. I think the Man Vs. Food challenge for this place was a giant calzone or something, I don't remember. But their pizzas were well worth the stop. Montana is also, unbeknownst to me, a HUGE meth using state. Like, it's an epidemic. And there is graffiti and billboards and signs everywhere discouraging people from using meth. It was so weird and definitely not something you'd see back home! As we made our way out of Butte, we all noticed a statue high up on the mountains, it was bright white and until we got closer, we couldn't make out what it was. It looked like a Christus. After a simple google search, we learned it was Butte's "Lady of The Rockies" - a statue of Mother Mary, dedicated to all mothers, and built by a bunch of people, not necessarily from any one religion. The website for the statue doesn't explain why, but mentions something about a dream? It's a little weird. The statue is 90 feet tall and sits on top of the continental divide. Apparently you can "tour" the statue, and there is a chapel up there that you can even get married in! Montana, man. It's a weird place.

After hitting tons of construction and finally making it to Browning, the last real city before you're in the park, we got a little confused with our directions and drove a few miles up and down the same road a few times as we tried to decide where we were going! We got to the little town of St. Mary, and were SO PSYCHED!

We split up the trip between East and West Glacier, spending the first half on the east side of Logan Pass (the highest point in the park and kind of but not really, the middle of the park). We stayed in the St. Mary Campground which is maybe 200 yards from the park entrance on the East Side, ha! We loved the campground - it was busy, with lots of people, but the designated camp spots were clean and private, and you didn't feel like you were in the open. The bathrooms were also surprisingly nice! Usually when we camp, even in a campground, I prefer to just stay outside because the bathrooms are always so gross, but these were so nice! Maybe it seems like a small thing to mention, but seriously. Nice bathrooms in a campground are so hard to come by.

The thing to keep in mind about Glacier is that you are in bear country, which is part of why the park is so well kept! We were advised by the camp host when we checked in to keep any food, and even toiletries that contained any odors whatsoever in our car, or in a bear safe. They also enforce strict rules about fires - you're welcome to have a camp fire, but you can never leave a smoking or smoldering fire unattended. Like, at all. It has to be put out completely before you leave or go to bed. When we got there and they went over these rules, and handed us pamphlets about bear safety, I got a little paranoid! We didn't see any bears anywhere near camp though, or any other wildlife for that matter, and we were fine!

After settling in at camp and unpacking all of our stuff, we headed back out the entrance into the "town" of St. Mary and stopped in a gift shop. We looked around and were so excited to finally be there that it was tempting to buy stuff, but I'm glad we shopped around during the trip! It was worth waiting, haha. We asked the guys working in the gift shop for some food recommendations and they gave us some awesome suggestions, and we ended up eating at everywhere they recommended! That night, we had Johnson's for dinner. The food was delicious! We loved the atmosphere and the service was pretty good, too. Everyone who works in and around the park like this does it seasonally, it's just a bunch of college aged kids, and I was a little jealous that they were spending their entire summer working in Glacier! One of the waitresses said she had been there 2 weeks and had already seen 2 bears around where she was staying! We were also told that the Going To The Sun Road, which is the main road that intersects the park, officially opened the following day. Um.. we had no idea! We couldn't believe how lucky we were to get there right as the park was opening! What a relief. Our trip would have been a complete bust had we come any earlier!!!

On our way back to camp, we stopped by the big "Glacier National Park" sign to take some pictures. Even the views from our campsite and the park entrance were absolutely amazing! There is something gorgeous everywhere you look!

When we woke up the next morning, we went back to Johnson's for breakfast. The breakfast was WAY better than the dinner! I ordered the most delicious yogurt and granola, and Devin got the biggest breakfast burrito I've ever seen in my life! The tortilla wouldn't even close all the way, it was sealed together with melted cheese slices! He loved it though and eat almost the whole thing!

After breakfast we headed up to Many Glacier, an area of the park we were hellbent on spending some time in! The first place we happened upon was Lake Sherburne, and the views from the road were so amazing, we had to pull in near the lodge and get out of the car! The water was SO BLUE and it was so windy and cold! I think we were all on a bit of a high, because we were finally HERE! IN THE PARK!

Glacier_001
gassing up in the weirdest little town in montana. we got off the exit because the sign said there would be fuel, and we drove past this pump (yes, just the one little pump) before realizing it was even there!

Glacier_002
downtown butte was so cool! and a little dead, but i guess that's because it was a thursday afternoon.

Glacier_003
love these old buildings!

Glacier_004
if you're ever in Butte... eat here!

Glacier_005 Glacier_006
mahgarita and bbq chicken pizzas. they were impressively delicious.

Glacier_007 Glacier_008
endless construction in Browning, just a few miles from the park entrance. so frustrating! but at least we got views like this. Montana really is BIG SKY country.

Glacier_009
crosby was a total boss the whole trip. minus the gas mileage thing. but we're willing to look past it.

Glacier_009.5
across the street from the st. mary visitor's center, literally, barely inside the park. unbelievable!

Glacier_010
We took our 10 man, 2 room tent and it worked out perfectly for the 4 of us! We all slept really comfortably!

Glacier_011
Even the view from our camp site was amazing

Glacier_012
outside johnson's, about to eat dinner, and still not over these views!

Glacier_013 Glacier_014 Glacier_015 Glacier_016
ryan getting artsy while we took about 300 pictures

Glacier_017 Glacier_018
this was devin's breakfast burrito! so big, it wouldn't close without that giant cheese bandaid! he loved it. i'm not sure why...

our first views of Lake Sherburne

Glacier_020 Glacier_021 Glacier_022
the wind coming off of that glacial water was freezing cold, but it was so worth it!

29 Weeks

IMG_8226
we've already spent way, way more time in a tent then i'd ever thought i'd be able to tolerate during pregnancy, and it's actually been great! i'm begging devin to find a way we can squeeze in two more camping trips before the baby comes! this picture is from over the weekend - we went up to wyoming for our annual camping trip at grey's river and while the guys went shooting, i took a nap and read this hilarious book. any time i'm laying down, i usually lift my shirt up so i can watch her move and feel her better. i get that the bare belly stuff isn't everyone's "thing", because i totally rolled my eyes too, but now that i've got bump, i've grown to love it, and now i understand the other side of the spectrum!

+ Today I am 29 weeks, 5 days (I've really gotta get better at doing these earlier in the week!)

+ Baby Girl is as big as a winter squash (okay. hold on a second. because the photo of a winter squash is a legit pumpkin. and i feel like she's as big as a pumpkin... but she's not actually as big as a pumpkin yet, right? haha)

+ This week, I finally had a moment. And I missed my old body. Well, I missed being able to dress my old body. I was used to my old body. I knew it! And I love this little bump more than just about anything and I think it's pretty amazing to lay down and watch her wiggle and feel her kick, and I actually like the way my belly looks, but I miss knowing what I was doing when it came to dressing myself. I finally broke down today and went to target and bought more maternity clothes. I think there was a bad combination of thinking I had enough maternity clothes, and being in denial about needing them and still trying to wear regular clothes. And wearing my jeans with the hair tie trick just wasn't working anymore, ha!

+ My finger nails have been growing SO fast. They always say prenatal vitamins are great for your hair, skin and nails but I didn't notice any difference until the last week or so, where my nails just won't stay short! It's driving my slightly insane. And as for my hair and skin? They seem about the same as always, haha!

+ We are moving in a month, but we've got i'd say about 65% of the nursery stuff and it's so exciting! It's a little hard to put together and decorate a room you don't have yet, but I'm doing my best and I think it's going to turn out better than how I imagine it will! I can't wait to get started. I'm pretty sure the nursery will be put together before we've even completely moved in, and the rest of the house will be done some time over the next few years..? I just can't wait!!

+ We've got a pretty active, yet consistent baby on our hands! She seems to have herself on a schedule, which has been nice, because I know when to expect movement, and when to not worry about her. But when she's active, she gets feisty! I love it! This weekend, Devin finally got to feel some serious movement. He's felt a few kicks and nudges already, but this time she was showing off and kicked right at his hand several times and my heart could have burst watching the two of them bond like that for a minute. As excited as I am to have her, and meet her and finally see her and hold her, I think I am ultimately most excited to watch the man I love become a father to a child that is equal parts him and me. I think it's going to be the greatest thing I'll ever get to be a part of.

+ just sort of FREAKING OUT about the fact that we are SO close!!! I can't believe I only have 10 weeks left! I made a list of all the big things going on between now and my due date, and we are going to be so busy until she comes that I'm sure it will go by EVEN FASTER! Normally, this would stress me out, and maybe it is, just in a good way, because I'm mostly just SO EXCITED! We've got my birthday, baby showers, moving day, hopefully a couple more camping trips, tons of doctor's appointments, and a nephew coming! I am so glad we'll be so busy, because it will keep me distracted from getting too impatient! It's going to be an exciting late summer!

28 Weeks

IMG_8194

+ Today I am 28 weeks, 4 days

+ Baby girl is as big as a EGGPLANT (all of my apps stopped agreeing, and now all the fruits and all the veggies are getting all mixed up, because I swear one of the apps said she was an eggplant like a month ago, but we'll just go with it.)

+ Devin finally felt her move!!! AND we saw her from the outside for the first time! haha I feel like we've been waiting for her movements to be strong enough for so long, so it was exciting to finally get here! She has been so active, especially during the afternoons. It gets really distracting at work! And also, she's been lodged in my ribs the last few days!

+ She's officially set up camp in my ribs on my right side. She won't budge. And she's seemed to have made it her personal goal to attempt to break at least one rib while she's there.

+ I've had a few braxton hicks contractions this week! It's mostly just crazy to me that I'm far enough along to be experiencing false contractions! What?!

+ Things are starting pile up and stress me out, while at the same time falling into place sort of? It's kind of this frenzied, but calm... storm. Ha! I feel like there's a million things that need to be done and arranged and I keep seeing people having their babies weeks and weeks early, and that terrifies me to not be prepared, but at the same time, things are moving slowly, and big things are getting checked off the to do list and it's all going well, so... take what you will from that statement. I'm freaking out, but I can manage. Basically.

Katie, Lately

IMG_8090 IMG_8088
i have wanted this poppy quilt from little unicorn for months. even before i found out i was having a girl! so when my sweet sister in law's mom got it for me, i could have cried! it's one of the most thoughtful gifts i've ever received and I already know that this will be that baby blanket my girl carries around with her and cherishes for her whole life! i love it so much.

IMG_8089
i also couldn't help myself and had to pick up some of the little unicorn swaddles! the grey one is bamboo muslin which is basically the softest fabric in the history of the world, and i love the one on the right! it will match the nursery really well, and it's not too girly, or too boyish. i love them so much! i really need to stop buying baby blankets, haha!

IMG_8107
so, devin was out of town all week and didn't get back until the 4th of july. i kept myself busy with stuff around the house and also spent the bulk of my freetime with my sister in law eating and watching movies to make ourselves feel better about being pregnant (she is 6 weeks ahead of me!), and on friday i decided i didn't want to just bum around and be sad that i was alone on my day off, so coop and i headed to tibblefork for a swim! this is by far my favorite place to take coop. everyone we run into up there is always so nice and there's always other dogs to play with, and endless sticks to swim for!

IMG_8104 IMG_8106
not to mention, tibblefork has the most breathtaking view of the edge of timp, and i think this is probably one of the most beautiful places in Utah.

IMG_8112
after our swim, we went to my mom's house while she watched scarlett. Scar is such an animal lover and she is so funny with cooper! he is really sweet and patient with her, thank goodness haha she crawled under the coffee table with him to look at his "shoes" - all feet are shoes to her right now. shoes are her favorite thing! she's definitely her mother's daughter!

IMG_8115
she also finished off my dirty diet coke (don't tell her mom! haha it was only the watered down part at the bottom, i swear) the cup was as big as her, and every time she took a drink she was say "ah" haha so refreshing!

IMG_8120
you can't keep her off the 4wheelers! she loves going outside and puttering around with my dad while he works on things in the garage, shop, and trailer, and he can't resist giving her a little ride around the neighborhood!

IMG_8130
devin finally got home on the 4th of july! i don't know what it was about this trip, but we both seemed to really miss each other. the last few days as he's been back have been so great! once he got unpacked and showered, we headed to ikea and bought a crib! then we grabbed dinner at corner bakery and stopped for some sno cones before we went home and watched a movie instead of fighting crowds for fireworks! i know, we're a buzzkill aren't we? haha
