more baby photos

i'm really not in the mood to talk about our lives lately. we've got SO much going on, my head is totally spinning. we are on the cusp of so many big decisions, and once we've actually made them, i'll clue you in. #adultlifeproblems. anyway, today is so meh and the only that could cheer me up right now would be this baby girl right here, so here's a zillion photos from the day she was born.

photos of baby scarlett taken with my iphone

this is the only photo in this post that i didn't take. this is the photo that zac sent us while we were in the waiting room, right after scarlett was born. we had all been at the hospital for about 8 or 9 hours at this point, it was 1 in the morning, and when the nurse said the doctor was on his way and kayla could start pushing, my siblings, parents and i went to the waiting room. scarlett was rushed to the NICU right away, and we didn't get to meet her that night. she was having trouble breathing, and by 2am, everyone just needed some SLEEP. we knew there would be plenty of scarlett to go around the next day. i can't tell you how happy we all were to see this picture come to each of our phones. this baby girl has my heart.

and just so you can compare: scarlett is totally her mother's daughter! i wish i had a baby picture of zac, because she's got so much of him in her, too!

Katie, Lately

IMG_1664
okay, so I think I've mentioned that the dapper gentleman in the middle, Elder D. Todd Christofferson, is actually my great uncle. It's pretty cool. Even cooler is that Uncle Todd took some time last week out of his busy schedule and sat down with my younger brother, and his 3 cousins (all of these boys are leaving on missions this year). He spoke with them and gave advice and counsel. How many guys get that kind of experience? I am so proud of all 4 of them! The one on the far left is headed to Canada soon. The one 2nd from the left went into the MTC this week, the 4th one from the left gets his call this week (hopefully!), and my little brother on the far has started his papers and will be leaving in the fall, we think! This is blowing my mind! These boys were just babies!

signed up for birchbox this year and i'm LOVING it. every product so far has been right up my alley.

remember how we got called as SUNBEAM TEACHERS?! we wrote cards to the parents of all the kids in our class, and i realized it was the first time we'd ever been addressed as brother and sister ashby!

IMG_1553
speaking of sunbeams, here are a few of them. have you ever tried to hold the attention of a dozen 3 year olds for 45 minutes? we take regular breaks to "get wiggles out" which means we let them run around for at least 5 minutes at a time. these boys can be tough, but my heart just bursts for them! i love them so much already.

cooper CANNOT handle his excitement in the car. he gets SO PSYCHED.

so devin and i collaborated and made this amazing sign for scarlett's nursery and it took us forever to finish it, but it was worth it! it turned out beautiful, and looks so perfect above her changing table.

Scarlett Lavee Morck

My sister had a baby. The most beautiful baby girl I've ever seen. She's the sweetest most content little wonder, and I could stare at her for days and never get sick of her amazing cheeks and perfectly pursed little lips, or those long, skinny frog legs she likes to tuck up under herself, or her quiet little coo's that let you know she's still breathing (she's always so sleepy, and so still. i wonder sometimes! haha). I could never get sick of her perfectly shaped head, or her mama's nose right there under her gorgeous dark blue eyes. she is the greatest little thing and i'm absolutely in love.

this baby has been a long time coming. it felt like an eternity that my sister was pregnant (i'm sure it felt longer for her!) and then baby girl was 10 days past her due date! it was agonizing waiting for her, and the hours and hours we all spent at the hospital while my sister was in labor didn't help either.

but, my goodness, she was worth it. baby scarlett has already brought this ginormous amount of love into our family that you just can't measure. i felt immediately connected to his little babe, and i think it's because over the past several months, i've grown so close to her mama. our entire family has been wrapped around this baby's finger and we wouldn't have it any other way. she's exactly what we all needed, and she is the perfect addition. watching mckayla and zac become parents has been incredible. they are so dedicated and so loving. they are naturals! mckayla has become this gorgeous, glowing mother, with perfect instinct, and zac is the protective dad that knows how to do it all just right. they are such a perfect little family.

i was so glad when mckayla asked me to photograph for her. i wanted to capture those moments in the long hours of labor through the night, and also those first moments we all met scarlett and the time they spent in the hospital before she came home. in a few weeks, when things have settled down and they start feeling like themselves again, i will take more photos in their home, but these ones, i'm just swooning over. what a perfect family. i love you, morck's!
