Buckhorn

IMG_2467

It has been about 3 years since we were last at Buckhorn Wash (we went just after we got married - read about that trip here), and we were overdue for a camping trip anyway, so we decided to make another trip to the wedge!

The weather was beautiful, there was lots to explore, and we had the greatest time. Cooper is certainly a desert dog, and had the time of his life running around in the sand, and digging to his heart's content. He also discovered he has an echo in places like that - it was hilarious to watch him try to figure it out!

I wish I would have taken more photos - but you know how it goes… Here's hoping we're back outside soon! This was the perfect segue into a great season of camping and being outdoors.

all i know is that if these two boys are involved, it's going to be an adventure.

always mesmerized by the giant windmills at the mouth of spanish fork canyon

lucked out with this great camp spot. couldn't get the car in over the rocks, so we carried everything about 100 yards into the camp.

TIME OUT: have you ever seen this weird stuff? it's like.. black crusty dirt stuff? sometimes it looks like black moss? yeah. it's called cryptobiotic soil and it's actually a living organism. it's one of the oldest known life forms EVER, so if you ever see it? don't touch it or step on it!

every single time we go camping, it doesn't take long for devin to wander off and explore. we were camped in the corner of this awesome little canyon, and before i knew it, devin was climbing around to the top of the cliff we were under! the views he gets are incredible though. this is our camp!

IMG_2489
coop followed him up and officially let it be known that he is a giant wuss when it comes to heights. he would not get any closer to the edge, haha!

buckhorn is the prettiest. i love the desert.

IMG_2456
as he climbed around up there, i took photos of him and coop! it's so hard to see in this photo, but they are in the middle, dev on the left and coop on the right. do you see them!?

IMG_2454
there he is! so tiny way up there.

 IMG_2450
we stopped at the pictograph panel

IMG_2448
these things just blow my mind. these pictographs were painted over 2,000 years ago. TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO. amazing. i just can't even… whoa.

IMG_2447
bottleneck peak. devin says it's bolted for rock climbing - looks too scary to me!

IMG_2487
and then a little target practice with our beretta (i have horrible aim - can you tell? ha)

IMG_2443
cooper was absolutely TERRIFIED of the gun, the poor guy. he ran and hid under the car, so we took him to the san rafael river after for a swim.

IMG_2444 IMG_2446 IMG_2442 IMG_2441 IMG_2439
This is the "swinging bridge" - it was built in the 1930s and is the only suspension bridge in Utah now! It's suspended from these massive cables, and it really does swing and creak - a little unnerving if you ask me.

IMG_2438 IMG_2437 IMG_2436 IMG_2434 IMG_2484
hanging out at camp - coop digging like a crazy person. he looooved the sand. in the middle of the day, when it was hot, he would dig until he found cool sand, and lay in it. smart dog!

IMG_2485
excuse the day 4 hair, mismatched clothes, and lack of public decency - i'm camping! but i thought this photo was funny because i've constantly got a grip on a can of diet coke. even in the middle of nowhere.

taking some time to revisit one of my favorites

IMG_2432
on our way home, we stopped at the wedge. i think it's sometimes called the little grand canyon. for obvious reasons. absolutely gorgeous.

IMG_2431
goes on forever

IMG_2429
again with the scared dog. he haaaated it, it was hilarious haha

IMG_2427 IMG_2426
rode all the way home on a giant stack of pillows and blankets like a darn king. spoiled rotten is what this guy is.
