i celebrated my birthday last weekend, totally and completely surrounded by friends and family. i'm not one to seek attention or enjoy the spotlight, but man, guys. i felt so dang loved. it was one of the best weekends ever, and naturally, devin made that so. he is a fantastic birthday celebrator, and i'm a lucky woman to have him orchestrate my birthday for the rest of my life! he spoiled me and gave me a few gifts that have so much meaning to me. he has a tendency of making me cry with his gifts, he's just that good!
because my birthday was on sunday, we celebrated all weekend long, starting with lunch on saturday at one of our favorite restaurants: Fuji. did you know i'm a sushi person now? it's true. after that, i sort of tricked devin into going to Target with me, and spending way longer than I'm sure he planned in there ;) haha. I just love to weave in and out of every single aisle and look at every single thing. then we went home and opened presents, packed stuff up and headed up American Fork Canyon.
we spent the entire evening up there with friends and family, roasting hot dogs and s'mores and it was one of the funnest and most relaxing birthdays i've ever had! these past few years, as devin has worked at momentum and gone to school at UVU, we've gained so many lifelong friends. so many people that mean so much to me! real true friends, that will stick around forever. i love them all so much and seeing and hearing from them all throughout the weekend was so special to me! i feel like a lot of the friends i have now, i owe to devin, but even his friends take me in and become my own friends and i love them all for that! i am surrounded by the greatest people i know! i am so fortunate to have them all in my life.
on sunday, my actual birthday, i got sang to in primary (happy happy birthday, sister ashby, dear! - at least they didn't make me wear a hat!) and then spent 2 hours with some ultra-fidgety 3 & 4 year-olds. those kids can test my patience, that's for sure! i love them though. their guesses for how old i was turning were 5 and 50, so...
after church, we spent the entire rest of the day with my family. exactly what i wanted! my mom grilled and even hung the same Suzy Zoo birthday banner that she's hung for each of my birthdays for the last 20 years at least. i always have so much fun with my family. my siblings and their spouses are truly my best friends. we can't be stopped when we all get together! it's like having 5 built-in best friends between my brother, sisters, and brothers-in-law. not to mention my parents and that sweet little scarly-girl who is SIX MONTHS OLD now. (i don't wanna talk about it!). mckayla surprised me with a donut cake which was right up my alley, and so cute and sweet of her. after that, kelli and sean, who just spent 3 weeks in peru, told us about their trip and brought us all back amazing souvenirs! peru seems so much different then i ever pictured it to be. i've never been to a third world country, so their stories blew my mind!
i had such a fantastic birthday. i really think 23 is going to be a big year for me. i'm so excited to see what happens in this next year! i have a lot planned for this year!!!
volcano rolls forever.
even with marshmallow in his eyebrow, he manages to be the cutest kid ever.
wish i had a picture of his whole outfit. the skinny jeans and sneakers killed me! so cute.
boys will be boys! derek spent a good 5 minutes dousing the fire in lighter fluid.
the only proper way to celebrate a birthday is with suzy zoo decorations.
probably the coolest birthday cake i've ever had!
okay this is a funny story: i open the present from my sister and the first thing i see is a bottle of diet coke. i'm getting all excited, thinking she found one with my name on it, because i'd been looking forever! i turned the bottle around and just burst out laughing. she couldn't fine one with my name, so she got me one with her name instead!! hahaha classic kayla. so funny!
something so neat about seeing your dad be a grandpa. he's so cute with her! scarlett just adores him.
birthday flowers from mckayla!
